Zalongo. Zalongo (Zaloggo) is a historic mountain village north of Preveza. On the same mountain took place in the time of Ottoman rule one of the greatest dramas of Greek history. After the fall of the village of Souli (1803), the Albanian Muslims withdrew under the leadership of Ali Pasha direction Zalongo to capture the women and children who were there. Fifty-seven women leapt to their children dancing and singing from the rock of a hillside when they were surrounded. In memory, there is this rock today a monument is 12.5 meters high and 17.5 meters wide, the "Dance of Zalongo" appears. This monument is an artwork of the famous Greek sculptor Yorgos Zoggolopoulos. Every year in the month of October are given here reconstructions of the "Dance of Zalongo" where hundreds of people come to see it.
