MESSONGHI. The coastal village Messoggi or Messonghi on Corfu is located in a beautiful setting, 22 kilometres south of Corfu town. During recent years it has become very crowded and touristy. In this area are many hotels, camping-sites, villas and apartments. Though there are plenty of tourist facilities, the village still maintains its friendly atmosphere.
Thanks to the Messonghi river the country is well irrigated, there grow olive trees and other trees in the area. The pebbly beach is surrounded by green. At the beach are many good tavernas and beach bars. Along the main road are many traditional tavernas and fish restaurants.
Furthermore, you can visit the remains of a temple dating from the third century BC, on the hill behind the village. Also walkers can enjoy themselves very well here, along the coast to the south or inland along the river. The Messonghi River is located south of the village of Messonghi and is actually the border between central and southern Corfu. From Messonghi , boat trips are organised daily to Sivota (Epirus) and the Paxi islands (Paxos and Antipaxos).
