Marathi. Marathi is a fishing village on the southeastern coast of the Akrotiri peninsula in Chania Crete. It is a traditional Cretan fishing village with a small harbour. Here one can see ancient ruins. Earlier on this place was located in the ancient Minoa, a port belonging to the historic Aptera. Marathi is located in Souda Bay, 18 kilometers east of Chania city, right opposite the island of Paleosouda. On the other side of the bay are Aptera and the seaside town of Kalives. The village has a nice sandy beach and there are some good restaurants / fish taverns. There are also rooms and apartments to rent. Two kilometers southwest of Marathi is Loutraki beach. It is a beautiful beach surrounded by greenery. A walk from Marathi to Loutraki takes about twenty minutes.
